get my protein from all the plants I eat.
Eating a variety of plants provides all the amino acids (including all 9 essential ones) to build the body. The myth that a plant based diet is incomplete was retracted and disproved over 20 yrs ago but it still sadly continues to be used today to try and convince people that a vegan diet lacks protein.
Just because one type of plant might be lower in or lack an amino acid does NOT mean that a plant based diet is incomplete. Think about it. Sure if we only ate one type of food for every meal for the rest of our life, we might create a deficiency - but that’s just not reality. In reality we eat a variety of things which naturally covers our needs if we eat enough.
Why are we continuing to perpetuate an old and incorrect theory? For one, it validates certain opposing opinions and theories and second, because old content, ideas and theories usually are not updated or taken down. People still find it and if it’s “old” it somehow holds wisdom even if it’s been disproven long ago as well… Even old books are still in circulation, despite new books and research proving them incorrect. Myths continue because old theories are not updated and people still take them at face value today instead of digging into the new research and challenging these old beliefs.
I’m certainly not worried about protein. I increase my weights I lift in the gym often, which means I’m getting stronger, which means I’m building muscle… on raw plants.
A better question would be…where’s the fiber variety! Society is so focused on getting enough protein when only around 3% of people get their RDA of fiber a day…🤔
Also remember… when we under eat, our bodies break down muscle too so EAT enough!
