Pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell? That is Exactly What Republicans Want To Do

Convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell may be on her way to a presidential pardon — and the political maneuvering behind it is as troubling as it sounds. House Oversight Committee Republicans are reportedly split over a potential deal that would grant Maxwell a full pardon in exchange for her cooperation and testimony in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Hawk breaks down exactly why some Republicans are pushing for this, and why the answer is painfully obvious: Maxwell would walk into that committee room and clear Donald Trump of any wrongdoing.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021 on five charges including sex trafficking of a minor. Jeffrey Epstein visited the Clinton White House 17 times, and Trump's name appears over one million times across the three million pages of Epstein files released by the DOJ this year.

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi sat feet away from Epstein survivors at a congressional hearing and refused to acknowledge them. Not one of those survivors has ever been contacted by the DOJ. Bondi was fired, and Trump replaced her with Todd Blanch — Trump's own former criminal defense attorney from the New York hush money trial where Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts. On Blanch's first day as acting attorney general, he announced the DOJ would release no further Epstein documents.

Representative Robert Garcia called a Maxwell pardon a massive cover-up and a slap in the face to survivors. James Comer, who chairs the committee, said Maxwell is the worst person in this investigation outside of Epstein himself — yet members of his own party are still entertaining this deal.
