Assorted Freight and Sprinters at Hellifield Station

After a few scorching hot days, it is a nice relief to see some clouds in the sky and feel a gentle breeze.

I've been meaning to visit Shed24H, the Hellifield Station cafe, for quite some time now. Today was finally the day. I also managed to catch some West Coast Railway locomotives doing a bit of shunting around Hellifield, having earlier dropped off The Dalesman steam excursion. The driver had a bit of trouble releasing the brakes on 57006, as you'll see on the video.

The usual departmental and log train also featured, as well as a range of class 158 Express Sprinters working the Leeds-Carlisle and Leeds-Morecambe routes in each direction. Today's Carlisle N.Y. to Crewe departmental (0K05) was running light engine, 66429, and made an unplanned stop at Hellifield so that the driver could dive into the cafe and pick up his lunch!
