Gulangyu, located off the coast of Xiamen in southeast China's Fujian Province, is a pedestrian-only island and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The name Gulangyu, or Kulangsu, is the literal translation of Chinese for 'drum wave islet,' as it describes the sound made by waves when they pound a reef, creating a drum-like sound. The island attracts millions of tourists each year. Follow our China Up Close series and take in the island view of Gulangyu. #ChinaUpClose
