Politicians speak with cyclone affected at Bay View meeting.
The Bay View community hosted representatives from across the political spectrum on Friday night, to hear from cyclone affected residents.
The meeting held at the King George Hall, provided Hon Ginny Anderson - Labour, Chris Penk - National, and ACT Leader David Seymour a platform to present their assessment of the recovery so far, before opening up the floor to questions from the audience.
Hawke's Bay App asked each representative for their impression of the evening, and to name one change, that they had outline in their presentation, that would help communities in future natural disasters.
Police Minister Anderson, who also holds the portfolio for Digital Economy and Communications, outlined the importance of telecommunication resilience, and the increased use of satellite technology to withstand disruption.
National Party's spokesperson for Cyclone Recovery Chris Penk, targeted flexibility to business-as-usual rules in the wake of natural disasters, citing easing of burn-offs regulations for the horticultural sector to enable rapid clean up.
ACT's Seymour suggested a re balancing of local government's responsibilities to focus on core infrastructure, and incentivise building through an increase the share of GST receipts councils receive.
The full video of the meeting will be available early this coming week.
