As per some online information available late Mahatma Gandhiji dwelt on cleanliness and pointed out its close relationship to good health. Gandhiji vision for a clean country had three aspects, viz. hygiene, Swaraj, and abolishing untouchability. During one of his speeches at Mandvi, Gujarat, Gandhi said, “During my wanderings, nothing has been so painful to me as to observe our insanitation throughout the length and breadth of the land. Also, Gandhiji dwelt on cleanliness and pointed out its close relationship to good health.

Further, as per some available online news sources, Swachh Bharat Mission India Mission is a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India on 2nd October 2014 to improve solid waste management and to create Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages. The program also aims to increase awareness of menstrual health management covering all the important aspects of health and hygiene.
Moreover, Phase 1 of the Swachh Bharat Mission lasted till 2nd October 2019 and Phase 2 is being implemented between 2020–21 and 2024–25 to help cement the work of Phase 1.The mission is aimed at progressing towards target 6.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals Number 6 established by the United Nations.

Now in the current year 2023 new theme under the Swatch Bharat Mission has been launched “Swatchta Hi Seva” from 15 September TO 2 October to spread a clean India mission to make a healthy and better India.
As per the news reports a big cleanliness drive on 1st October 2023 to unite and clean mumbai is to flag off under the Swachhta Hi Seva Theme.
