Imagine being confined to a small, white room with no social interaction whatsoever. We all want to be alone from time to time, to escape the demands of our colleagues or the hassle of crowds. But not alone alone. For most people, prolonged social isolation is all bad, particularly mentally. Here are some things that may happen to your body if you were isolated in white room torture with no interaction.

White room torture is when the victim is place in a white room, where the floors, ceiling, doors, clothes, bed, sheets, and even food are all white. The guards would even wear padded shoes so they don’t make any noise. The is to mentally torture the victim without any stimuli and eventally make them go crazy.

There are many negative effects that social isolation and extreme isolation can have on our minds and bodies. Living in isolation is so difficult for humans to withstand. Most people cannot last even a month.

One of the reasons that living in isolation is difficult is because humans are social creatures. Many people live in isolated environments such as researchers stationed in Antarctica. They do report that loneliness can be the most difficult part of the job.

The impacts of social isolation become worse when people are placed in physically isolating environments. For example, solitary confinement can have negative psychological effects on prisoners – including significant increases in anxiety and panic attacks, increased levels of paranoia, and being less able to think clearly. Many prisoners also report long-term mental health problems after being held in isolation.

Since the pandemic officially began in 2020, we've been told staying home is the best way to avoid catching Covid-19. And it is. But life in confinement can cause physical ailments on its own.

Being homebound for so long contorts the body, weakens the heart and lungs, and even impairs brain function. The effects of living in isolation may stay with us beyond the pandemic's end (whenever that may be).
