Git & GitHub in VS Code: Complete Beginner Tutorial
Git and GitHub for Beginners: The Visual Guide in VS Code (No Terminal Required!)
We’ll start from scratch by installing Git, creating a repository, and learning how staging and commits help you save and track every change in your project. Best of all, we’ll do almost everything through the VS Code interface, so you won’t need to memorize a bunch of complicated terminal commands.
You’ll also learn how to:
- Create a `.gitignore` file and protect sensitive information like API keys
- View and manage your project history
- Create branches for new features
- Merge branches back into your project
- Resolve merge conflicts using the VS Code merge editor
- Publish a local project to GitHub
- Push and pull changes
- Clone an existing GitHub project onto a new computer
Git and GitHub can feel confusing when you first get started, but I’m going to make the entire workflow as easy and visual as possible. By the end, you’ll have a reliable system for managing your coding projects and keeping them safely synchronized with GitHub.
