Painting and Not Painting
Her work, whether it is painting or not painting, is concerned with the organization of space and its intrinsic connection to time. She has an abiding fascination with cartography, the sea, and the collection of discarded objects. Close attention to minute occurrences and acknowledgement of loss are deeply embedded in her practice.
Nuala Clarke spent twenty years living and working in New York City until she received a fellowship to the Ballinglen Arts Foundation on the west coast of Ireland in 2007. Clarke has exhibited internationally in solo exhibitions and group shows; has been represented by galleries in New York, curated shows, and worked collaboratively with artists and writers. Her work is included in the collections of the Bank of Ireland, NYU Law School, the Westin Hotel and Macy’s Department Store, and private collections. Born in Ireland, she was educated at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
