As part of a new Team Sim initiative (https://www.twitch.tv/team/sim) we are coordinating the 2-week free trials offered by DCS and learning to fly that aircraft over the 2 weeks that we all own the vehicle for. The aircraft we fly is decided by a community vote across several Team Sim members' Twitch chats.

The first vehicle voted for was the legendary German Bf 109 K-4 which several of us took out to learn how to start the engine, taxi, takeoff, fly and eventually land.

Having moved onto a live server with enemy players we attempted a takeoff. Somehow we got separated and were taking off 1 or 2 of us at a time. Before I had taken off there had been a collision at the far end of the runway which had left a wing sticking up in the air. Expecting to have taken off way before the incident I throttled up and pulled off the ground before I heard a loud thud from my left wing.
