Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi I, the head of this family, established his state by occupying the area of Bahawalpur in 1727 AD. Khairpur was one of the most prosperous states in Sindh. In its heyday, there were factories, modern schools, bazaars and hospitals where patients were admitted free of cost. The current Nawab of this state is Mir Mehdi Raza Khan who has an area of several lakh acres and palaces.
