Siargao Island - Pacifico, Pilar, Secret Spot - Cost of Living - Philippines

#Siargao #Philippines #Pacifico #TravelVlog #CostOfLiving
For a quieter less touristic experience, the towns of San Isidro and Pacifico are growing tourist spots and offer accommodations. Pacifico Beach is approximately an hour's drive North from General Luna. This small coastal town is a perfect spot to surf, relax, and enjoy the beach life. Pacifico Beach is one of the best surf spots on the island with reef breaks just a short paddle out from the shore.

SECRET SPOT, PARADISE & GUIUAN
Southwest of General Luna along the Union Road before you get to the town of Dapa, there are several nice beaches.
Secret Spot, Paradise, and Guiuan can be surfed most of the year except for the summer months of June, July, and August, when there’s no swell. The beaches face South unlike most breaks on the island so the wind often blows offshore when most other breaks are blown-out due to the onshore winds. The waves are often much smaller than other breaks since the swell has to wrap around the island.
This area is starting to see development and new places are becoming available all the time.
“Secret Spot” or “Secret Place”. Contrary to its name, it’s not a heavily guarded secret. Rather it’s a place that seldom receives attention compared to other Siargao attractions.
Jim Kellett says, “You'll meet the most amazing people here on the island. Many visitors have traveled a long way and really want to be here, Siargao tends to attract people that thrive on adventure and have a love of nature. There are also many Filipinos from cities or other parts of the country that have made their way here to be a part of the island culture. And there are the locals that are friendly, and happy to share the island vibe. They may even climb a tree to get a coconut for you“.

PILAR
Jim Kellett says, “I have a friend that lives in the small village of Pilar. He only pays $125 USD for a small house. There’s not much here in the way of infrastructure but there is a great surf break nearby as well as the Magpupungko Rock Pools. I recommend Resto Bar Magpupungko where they serve an excellent Kinilaw, also known as Philippine ceviche, it’s prepared with coconut milk it’s delicious and only a few dollars.
SNORKELING IN SIARGAO
My friends from Resto-Bar told me there were giant clams in the lagoon in Pilar. I swam out and sure enough, found some giant clams.”

The surf break at Pilar is a good intermediate spot. The swells wrap around from the left and break over a reef. The reef is a good snorkeling spot when the waves are small. Even at many of the more remote surf spots you’ll find an enterprising local with a popup store providing something to eat and drink.

GETTING AROUND SIARGAO
Siargao has better infrastructure compared to many of the islands in the Philippines. There are plenty of transportation options available ranging from vans to cars to bikes and the habal-habal. Motorbikes and can be rented for about Php300 PHP per day. Tricycles and habal-habals, are available for a short distance, it will only cost you 20 pesos for a shared ride to most locations within General Luna.

MAASIN RIVER SIARGAO
“You could drive the whole circumference of the island in about three or four hours. The Palmtree overlook.” is a nice place to stop and don't miss the Maasin River Siargao.

BEST TIME VISIT SIARGAO - BEST TIME TO GO TO SIARGAO
Living in Siargao year-round is great because every season can be enjoyable. If you are visiting, here are some things you may want to consider:
August to late November is “surfing season” the surf can be big and is best for experienced surfers, however, there are still breaks that are good for beginners.
September to early October, there is a price surge for rentals due to the surfing competitions.
For beginner surfers, the best time for surfing is from March to July when the waves are smaller and the weather is great.
The dry season is between March and October.
March through May are the hottest three months and is locally known as “Philippine summer” and many Filipinos visit the island.

HEALTHCARE
Healthcare costs are reasonable but very limited. There is one primary hospital that can handle simple procedures and there are other doctors around the island that run small clinics. For major medical problems, patients can be flown to Cebu City or take a boat to Surigao City.
