U.S. ARMY SURT TRAINING AT LIGHTNING ACADEMY — CONFIDENCE COURSE CHALLENGE

At Schofield Barracks East Range, Hawaii, U.S. Army Soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division face one of their toughest challenges — the Confidence Course. This is part of the Small Unit Ranger Tactics, or SURT, training conducted at Lightning Academy.

SURT is a prerequisite course that demands physical strength, mental resilience, and leadership skills. Specifically designed to prepare soldiers for the rigors of Ranger School, this training serves as a proving ground for those aspiring to become effective small unit leaders.

Soldiers climb, crawl, jump, and overcome various obstacles — not just to build physical endurance, but also to sharpen teamwork, discipline, and leadership under pressure. Every part of the course reflects real-world challenges on the battlefield.
