SURGERY: Tunnel technique with mucoderm® and Emdogain® for multiple adjacent recession-type defects

Surgery by Sergio Kahn (BR)

What is your favorite recession coverage technique? Dr. Sergio Kahn demonstrates his choice of using the modified coronally advanced tunnel technique (MCAT) in conjunction with mucoderm®.
Dr. Kahn heads the Master of Oral Rehabilitation and Undergraduate Dentistry Course at the Veiga de Almeida University, Brazil and is Head of Periodontics at UNIFESO (Centro Universitário Serra Dos Órgãos), Brazil.
After initial cleaning of the exposed root surfaces, a tunnel is prepared by careful elevation of the interjacent papillae and marginal soft tissues. Conditioning of the affected root surfaces is performed by applying EDTA. Following rinsing, enamel matrix derivate (Straumann® Emdogain®) is applied and mucoderm® is pulled into the prepared tunnel. The flap is advanced in coronal direction and adapted with sutures to cover mucoderm® completely by the soft tissue.
mucoderm® is a 3D regenerative tissue graft of porcine dermis resembling the native structure of the human dermis, designed to serve as a safe alternative to autologous connective tissue grafts (https://botiss-dental.com/products/mucoderm/).
