But super cop Isaque Bagwan led from the front and fought the mafia using only his ingenuity and his service revolver. In 1982, he led the first 'encounter' in the history of Mumbai Police in which gangster Manya Surve was eliminated near Ambedkar College in Wadala. The incident has become folklore in popular culture and has even been adapted into a movie.
