9.8 Alcohol Dehydration Part 2: Energy, Equilibrium, and Practice Problems
This organic chemistry video discusses energy changes in dehydration reactions and their impact on equilibrium. Changes in enthalpy, entropy, and overall energy change are described. The use of La Chatelier's principle to drive dehydration reactions to alkene products through distillation is described. Finally, four different dehydration practice problems are worked to predict products. Examples of E1 and E2 mechanisms are shown.
