Animals in Music - Varda Nishry
Varda Nishry (1935-1995), piano
Varda Nishry was born in a Kibbutz in Israel. Her first piano studies were under the guidance of her mother, Hanna Nishry, a well-known singer, whom she began to accompany at song recitals at the age of eight. Her debut as a concert soloist was in Jerusalem, when she was twelve.
Continuing her studies under Emma Gorochov at the Shulamith Conservatory of Tel Aviv, Varda Nishry then went to Paris, where she studied with Professor Lazare Levy at the Conservatoire Nationale, and won the Paris Conservatoire's Premier Grand Prix at the age of fifteen. Whilst still in Paris, she received tuition from Magda Tagliaferro, after which she left for New York to become a pupil of Claudio Arrau.
