Mini Tropical Garden & Vlog
For years I have been inspired by pictures I have seen of gardens in places like, Bali, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia overall. Gardens where tropical plants are grown around elements of a home or building with bright vibrant colors and lush vegetative growth filling in the surroundings. I have wanted to incorporate elements of water and non-organic media in with some plants for a long time. I did this by setting up a D.I.Y fountain with a potted water lotus and potted waterlily and filling in the area with tropical plants. Using water and the blue pottery symbolizes water, and not just symbolizes, the fountain and water gardens ARE the elements of water. Water represents tranquility, flow and movement and vitality, which goes well with plants since they also represent similar elements. Having these elements combined creates a serene and tranquil surrounding.
Setting up a D.I.Y ( do it yourself ) fountain is simple! D.I.Y fountains only require a couple of pots (one with and one without a drainage hole), a few bricks to elevate another pot, a small fountain pump and correlating tubing to pump size and hole in the bottom of the pot. The birds have been enjoying the fountain and using the fountain as a bird bath in the morning, which is probably great for the water hyacinth because they will use the nutrients from any droppings in the water. Plants used around the D.I.Y water garden and D.I.Y fountain include: heliconia ( false bird of paradise ), croton, macho fern, bromeliads, Ginger (curcuma), Ixora, Dracaena reflexa 'song of india', water hyacinth, waterlily 'southern charm' waterlily 'wanvisa', lotus 'decorated lantern', adonidia palms ( christmas palm tree ). I especially love the varieagated foliage on the song of india! There are many wonderful plants, many of which are houseplants that would go well in a similar set up. Philodendrons, pothos, monstera, ficus lyrata, boston ferns, maiden hair fern, all dracaenas and cordyines, alocasias, bamboo, orchids.... really anything that makes the you happy is all that matters.
The rest of the video is simply an informal vlog of me playing around with ideas as I renovate this spot in the garden and play around my plants. I did do a quick how to D.I.Y fountain but it is buried in this 50 minute video so I will make another how to video that is quick and exclusive to that topic for those interested.
