Lets Build Twitter From the Ground Up: Episode 296 || Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL and React
Building large scale application is more difficult than many people understand or expect. Join me in this long running series where I set out to duplicate one of the most popular social media platforms ever creating using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL data, React JS web application framework and more.
In this episode, we begin building the CommunityPostsHero component, which serves as the primary header and interaction hub for a community page. We display the community banner, name, type labels, description, and member count while integrating StackedProfilePictures to visually represent the community’s membership. We add conditional UI behavior that detects whether the logged-in user is a member, enabling join, leave, invite, share, and notification actions accordingly. To support these actions, we introduce contextual option popups for spotlighting, sharing, and inviting users, each rendered through a reusable CommunityPostsHeroOptionPopup component with click-outside handling. We also wire the hero controls to Redux actions for joining or leaving a community and opening related modals. Finally, we begin styling the hero section to match the platform’s design language and integrate the component into the CommunityPosts page, establishing the foundation for the full community header experience.
