Rappelling
Rappelling is a technique of descending along a rope by using friction to safely control the rate of descent. It is indispensable to technical climbing in the mountains. Proper rappelling technique learned thoroughly and employed carefully allows for a safe descent of almost any climbing pitch. The most common way to rappel is to thread the rope through a specialized belay device attached to your harness with a locking carabiner. The basic idea of rappelling is to have your dominant hand operate as the brake handwheel the other hand keeps a relaxed grip on the rope above the rappel device ,holding you upright. Your brake hand simultaneously keeps tension on the rope while sliding down the rope. Ensure that the upper body is upright and the legs are perpendicular to the rock surface.
The following precautions is very important to keep in mind while do rappelling
Starting and landing place for rappelling has to be stable and safe.
Keep rope away from sharp edge of rock .
Use mittens & proper PPE.
For shoulder rappelling use rappelling shirt.
Check anchors by excerting stable weight before rappelling.
The rope is properly threaded through the anchors.
