MIT Combined Sonar and Vision to Map Murky Water

MIT and Woods Hole engineers built Sonar-MASt3R, a real-time system that fuses camera images with forward-looking sonar to make detailed 3D maps in cloudy water. In sediment-filled tank tests, it mapped a boulder, mug, and packing crate while retaining true scale and centimeter-scale detail. It is a research system, not a finished autonomous product.
