*STORY DESCRIPTION*
Mike Stinnett is a wood carver who decided to take a hike on a hill that overlooks his hometown. He talks about the green Serpentine rock from which he carves arrowhead pendants and also a stone bison. He finds a walking stick and shows how useful it is to help him climb the steep mountain. He remembers climbing this mountain when he was a child with his dog, Pal. In the 1800's gold miners flocked to this land and miners who were Chinese built ditches to bring water from far away in order to pan the gold. They also made wooden troughs when needed to bypass rocky terrain. Pieces of wood and square nails can still be found as relics from the past.
At one point he talks about how observation of the natural things he finds along the way are inspiring for his artistic creations. A giant Puff Ball Mushroom was one of his last discoveries. His dog was not allowed to come with him because of the danger of Rattlesnakes and Mountain Lions.
