Stephanie won amateur night at the Apollo six straight weeks; signed a contract with Paramount Records, and was an opening act for the legendary Isley Brothers.

After navigating from stage to studio: Stephanie got her first gold record in 1979 while at 20th Century Fox Records with, "What you gonna do with my Lovin"

She followed that success with the 1980 album featuring another one of her signature hits, "Never Knew Love Like This Before" which earned her a Grammy Award and a place in the hearts of millions.
