Knocking At Your Back Door Bass Cover

“And now she eases gently
From her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young”

Thanks for everyone’s help with today’s selection. I hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!

“Knocking at Your Back Door” by Deep Purple off of their “Perfect Strangers” album which came out in 1984 and featured Roger Glover on bass. Roger Glover produced the album as well.

This one was suggested not too long ago. I had actually started learning it a while back, but put it down because of all the little variations he plays throughout. There are only like 2 or 3 riffs in the entire song that are repeated. I was eventually able to piece it all together, though I did just notice someone minor that I missed. Too late now!

I was in a fairly active cover band when this album came out and we played a couple of songs off of it… “Perfect Strangers”, “Under the Gun”, and this one. I always thought it was a great album and I remember it being in very heavy rotation in my car stereo. I think that Ian Gillan has the quintessential rock voice and I was a fan of his before I’d ever heard of Deep Purple, via the original Jesus Christ Superstar concept album. I was never a huge Deep Purple fan though and this was probably my favorite album of theirs. And, while I’m not a real “guitar-guy”, if pressed, I’d have to say that Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favorite guitarists, though it sounds as though he may not be a very nice fellow. Anyway, I really love this song and you have no idea how hard I am rocking out in this video beneath my disinterested demeanor.

Since I’ve been working a 4 day work week for the past few months, it’s allowed me to help Lynn out around the house a bit more and I’ve taken over the cleaning of the downstairs floors on Fridays. The living room is carpeted, but the rest of the downstairs (aside from the dining room, which is hardwood) is a Wilsonart composite flooring - essentially, countertop material. This includes the entrance/foyer, hallway, bathroom, laundry room, kitchen, and breakfast nook (otherwise known as "the cat's cafeteria"). It’s one of the bigger weekly housekeeping chores. All chairs and anything else that sits on the floor gets put into the living room. Then the floor is swept, typically yielding a large tumbleweed of cat hair. I like to go over it a second time in case I missed anything. Then the whole thing gets the once over with a microfiber mop and Windex. I have a recently created floor-cleaning playlist which is comprised of ABBA, Ghost, Crash Test Dummies, a few songs off of Donald Fagen’s “The Nightfly” album, and “The First of the Gang To Die”, by Morrisey. I added this song a couple of weeks ago when I started learning it and it turned out to be an awesome floor cleaning song. I nearly scrubbed it down to the sub flooring. I also put “Wasted Sunsets” off of this album in the playlist. That’s my second favorite song. The playlist came about because we’re finally able to use our home theater/stereo system to play music through. I’ll tell you about it some time. What an experience that was!

I’m playing the Bruce Thomas Profile Signature bass from The Bass Centre in England (which I still haven’t put down) through a SansAmp Para-Driver Ver. 1. It’s actually almost ready for a string change.
