Tenchu 4 Wii Japanese - Hell Difficulty - Grandmaster Speedrun + Cutscenes + All 50 Side Missions 4K

One... for old times sake....

I remember downloading this off of some Japanese website I couldn't understand at 5am on October 23rd 2008 to play this on my chipped Nintendo Wii. I'm pretty sure I hacked the thing just for this one... going back to it now felt a little dated I must admit, and we all know this isn't the best of the series. But high-quality videos of this game no longer exist. I can never seem to find the Japanese cutscenes anywhere when they are far superior to the English ones. The English conversions of the other Tenchus were fine but this one was so cheesy in terms of voice acting. And also high-quality gameplay videos of the game remain from 2008 with 360p quality. Felt the game deserved an All-in-1 video in 4K 60fps with great gameplay using speedrunning techniques on max difficulty, All jap cutscenes dubbed with subtitles, and all 50 side missions along with a killer soundtrack! ;)

Done this one for myself... It's one of my all-time favorite franchises and it occurred to me I don't even have a Tenchu video on this youtube channel...

Make no mistake. This took some practice, work, and dedication! Some of these clips were insanely difficult to get! The Japanese version has exploits with gameplay that cannot be performed in the US version! Mainly with the armored guards... They will see you at the slightest movement and cause a failure... You will notice upon jumping and landing near these guards. I press Z to activate "mind's eye" but this also silences your footsteps as you land if you time it right and can go into the assassination from there if you are quick enough...

There were definitely a few retries here but I think the one that stands out the most is the clip for the first segment in chapter 8... This clip.... was a bitch to get! The timing on that assassination of the 2 armored guards walking in the room is absolutely impeccable! The ONLY time you are allowed to move near these guards without them noticing you is whilst they are doing their turning animation and you have maybe 1 second to move at that time... So you have to speedrun the first 20-30 seconds of the stage perfectly - AND I MEAN PERFECTLY - in order to get the timing required as to when you enter that room and dash forward towards the two guards it is DURING their turning animation. This genuinely took like 4 and a half hours of retries for that 1 not even 60-second scene!

There were others as well though... such as on stage 4, trying to get the perfect dodge in the shadows next to the innocent woman without getting seen, then doing a perfect jump in order to land in the sweet spot for a multikill... That took quite a bit of time as well... Stage 5 has to be my favorite though. Just because of the multitude of tricks performed within the 1 stage.

So even though it's an old game and felt a little dated from what I remember playing at the time, I have to say... I had a blast making this video, I really did! I haven't fully dedicated myself to a good quality playthrough, editing videos, and uploading in quite some time. Knowing I was uploading to youtube gave me the incentive to practice and get good at the game in order to get these clips for a speedrun. It made me put a fair few hours back into 1 of my favorite game franchises, and I ended up really enjoying my time!

Anyways, for those wondering the soundtrack for the side-missions I added are all Tenchu soundtracks from 1, 2 (The Best) 3, and Kunerai/Fatal Shadows. Was going to edit song names in the video itself but in the end, I figured not a lot of point. if you just search for the album of said games you will find them all anyway...

Start from around 2:02:00 minute mark. Are numbered all the way up to 41. for some reason after 2 hours 30 my captions stopped showing but they are all there. I think 17, 27 and 40 gave me the most trouble...

Played on Dolphin Emulator at 4K for maximum possible quality. Works pretty well overall... Using a real Wiimote.
