The Anand Karaj ceremony is a joyous occasion in which families and companions from the two sides are intensely included. Most Sikh weddings occur toward the beginning of the day and are finished before early afternoon. Following the function is a langar or a formal lunch. The wedding occasion can keep going for the entire day and may spill into the following day.

Most families join the wedding function with the commitment service called the "kurmai", which is held just before the wedding pledges or laavan. There are 4 laavan's that take place within the ceremony. The laavan are hymns where the bride and groom walk around the holy bible to amend their wedding.
