VR Dr13 2311 11-10-99

We start with an overview of Turku shed, with plenty of power on show and then Dr13 2311 propels empty stock.

Next, we board train P807, the 09.45 to Pieksamaki for a run to Tampere with 2311. En route we depart the amusingly named (to me) station of Humppila, where the driver has to recover from a big wheelslip.

Finally at Tampere the loco is removed from the train.

In my mind's eye the Dr13s are very odd looking creatures. The body styling, the bogies, the twin engine format - just bizarre! But while the exhaust note doesn't exactly set the pulse racing, they seem solid machines, just like the other VR locos.

All bar 2 have been scrapped - apparently they were withdrawn from service the following year.
