I remember staying up late to catch the livestream of Beyoncé’s Coachella performance. I had no doubt the show would be great, but to witness history in the making firsthand was an experience unlike any other. I spent the whole day rewatching the stream over and over again, and for weeks after you couldn’t talk to me about anything else.

An illustrious 22-year career culminating into a decade-defining 2-hour performance, Beyoncé not only solidified herself as the greatest living entertainer of our time, but as one of the most influential and important creative geniuses in the history of the music industry ever. Among her biggest triumphs that night, bringing Black culture and the HBCU experience to the forefront in a traditionally White-dominated space to uplift Black artists and performers was one of her biggest, and one I hope to one day recreate with my own community and the people who inspire me as well.

Beyoncé has always been my biggest creative influence, and her body of work is one I’ve studied closely as I continue to grow as an artist. When 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 was released, it helped me refine my work ethic and how I approached my creative process; I would often rewatch it throughout my year as a dance director for both inspiration and motivation, and I still do to this day.

Five years later, Beyoncé’s Coachella performance is still one of the greatest ever to be put on stage, and it’s impact on pop culture continues to be seen today. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime performance that has stood the test of time, and one that will stick with me forever and always 💕🐝
