Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point
Sailors with Special Boat Team (SBT) Twenty-Two, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman (SWCC) conducted a dynamic live-fire at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Naval Boat Docks, 21 Feb, 2019. Sailors with SBT 22 increased their proficiency whilst utilizing the 11 meter rigid inflatable boat (RIB). SBT 22 favors the RIB’s capability to provide a constant rate of fire while attaining high-speeds and delivering maneuverability. The RIB contains two weapon stations that are capable of mounting either medium or heavy machine guns. Sailors with SBT 22 find it beneficial to train aboard Cherry Point due to the dynamic weather conditions that provide the team with diverse challenges. (U.S. Marine Corps Video by Sgt. Cody H. So, this morning we went out to conduct insert/extract, direct action, and fire support. Using the 11 meter NSW RHIB. So a lot of what you guys saw today was us workin' fire support from a maritime platform. (gun thumping) - to either a land based object, or another vessel, as far as a large ship or something like that. 11 meter RHIB only has two weapons stations, where we can mount .240, 50-cal, or Mark 19 between those two. So it's not a heavily armed vessel, so what we have is our speed not firepower. (gunfire) So when we spin the boats like that, it allows us to keep a constant rate of fire on target in the same amount of time; as if a direct action type of vessel with more guns would be able to light off all weapons at the same time. (gunfire) So a lot of those spins are just keepin' a sustained rate of fire on the target for a set amount of time that we would give them before we called them in for the shooting iteration. And then, the other one was a medical scenario that we ran. Where we have one of the operators sustain a gunshot wound, and then make the rest of the boatcrews continue to fight the fight. Then get them outta there and start the medical procedure for medevac and everything. Cherry Point is a dynamic environment. Deal with different elements that we don't experience down at Stennis Space Center. The environment's always changing, it gives our operators that exposure to different climates in a short period of time, to still go out and perform at that same high level regardless day or night. Great environment for us to train in. (electronic music)
