Why We DON'T Offer Warranties on Plants

One of the biggest mistakes I made in my landscaping business was worrying about things that customers weren't even concerned about.

For years, I stressed over how to tell customers that I couldn't warranty plants. I would lie awake at night wondering what would happen if a customer forgot to water their plants, a tree died, and I ended up responsible for thousands of dollars in replacements.

Then I learned something important.

Most customers completely understand.

In this video, I explain why we don't offer warranties on plants, how we communicate it to customers, and why it has actually made our landscaping business stronger and more profitable.

When we install plants, we follow best planting practices, amend the soil, provide watering instructions, and do everything possible to give the plants the best chance of success.

However, once the installation is complete, proper watering and ongoing care are outside of our control.

In many cases, the nursery may offer a replacement warranty on the plant itself, but labor to reinstall the plant is not included.

I also share a story about a "tree coffin" and a landscaping lesson I learned years ago that changed the way I look at tree health and landscape installations.
