“Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans?”

I listen to Louis Armstrong at least a little bit everyday. He inspires me as a trumpet player and more importantly as a MUSICIAN! He was simply not only the greatest jazz musician of all time, the greatest jazz trumpet player of all time, the greatest jazz singer of all time, but one of the greatest human beings of the earth. As Duke Ellington said after Louis had passed, “He was born poor, died rich and never hurt anybody in between!”

I’ve been thinking a lot about the city of New Orleans lately. My family took a trip down there in 2005 about 5 months before hurricane Katrina hit. We had a blast and the vibe AND cuisine helped lift our collective spirits as we were recovering from a terrible tragedy in my family. Loooooong story short we all needed a break at that point in our lives and the fun we had there helped us. Nothing like NOLA!❤️

Speaking directly to Louis’s trumpet playing, he had an incredible beautiful and unique sound. Wynton Marsalis said it sounds as though his sound has a light within it. Love that! There’s a certain brilliance that he had that I tried to emulate a bit in this video. It’s nothing close to Louis of course but I love to try and emulate that special brilliance and a bit of his overall style. Anyway I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for checking it out!
