Finally Proper Machine Controls - Electrical Cabinet For My Mini Lathe
Button foils on Ebay: https://www.ebay.de/itm/394895504865
This was a long one! Almost two years ago I begun the plannings of a proper electrical cabinet and electric machine controls for my Mini Lathe. The reason for this was that the original motor controls died all of a sudden. This seemed to be a common problem on these Mini Lathes and instead of buying a replacement circuit board for quite some money I decided to change to a completely new set of brushless servo motor and controller.
These sets are sold for a reasonable price intentionally for industrial sewing machines but they also work great in the use on small machine tools.
I chose a motor with 500W which is extremely powerfull especially on low speeds. After almost two years of use I'm still very happy with this decision.
The only thing which bothered me since back then was the motor control box which was just flying around behind the machine, impractical to reach and unsecure to use.
So I designed a custom electrical cabinet which a friendly colleague manufactured for me from solid 1,5mm sheet metal steel. As I wanted the look of industrial standard machine tools, I decided to install a proper main power switch and a double push button for starting the machine controls. In addition to that I installed an emergency switch and working hour meter in the new electrical cabinet.
For the electronics I got the kind support from Eaton, Klinger&Born und from Harting. Many thanks to the companies for supporting my work!
I finally had to made my own button foils for the motor control panel. If you are interested you can find them on ebay for your own projects. Link is below.
