KEVIN’S GUIDE TO STRAW TYPES..

SHANTUNG & TOYO are both the same thing, Basically..paper straw, shantung is usually hard, Toyo is soft, they aren’t bad, they can actually be very expensive and fine, many fine,Italian crushable straws are made of this fiber, it can be incredibly high tech, comfortable,strong,light..or just...cheap.
(the softer ones can give u problems when wet, but no straws are meant to really get wet anyway)
light to medium weight.

PANAMA is hand woven, very elegant texture,
versatile..goes dressy or casual, they often have one weak spot by the pinch, but only if u store it incorrectly,on its brim. this straw does it all, it is light weight, it has good flexibility, it looks gorgeous with anything from a bathing suit to a three price suit, and everything in between,
lighter weight

SISOL PARASISOL PARABUNTAL & BAKU are the lightest of all the straws, like rice paper, they hate rain, but weigh nothing, and have a reflective quality, take dye well, so they are great for colored straws...expensive and fragile, prone to wrinkles when wet
Super lightweight

HEMP, or MILAN or BRAIDED straw Milan can be made from paper, hemp or plastic, hemp is durable,it never tears, not as light as panama but much more durable, it starts out had but becomes soft and flexible over time..
medium to lightweight

PALM. there are two kinds, the flexible, stretchy, heavy kind..or this greenish type that they make baskets out of, it has a super fat weave and costs next to nothing, we don’t sell that type, but the flexible palm u see Stetson using on westerns like the Round Up, or short brim casual hats like The Hats Roberto, that’s great stuff,it’s bendy,it never tears,like..ever. It is a little heavier, but also the toughest of all, the most flexible of all, and the most inexpensive of all..plus, it is the only straw on this list that will take rain..lots of it. You can use water to shape these too!
Slightly heavier weight

SHANTUNG & TOYO are both the same thing, paper straw, it can be cheap, expensive, crushable, or rock hard..shantung is usually the hard, and Toyo is soft, they aren’t bad, they can actually be very expensive and fine, many crushable straws are made of this fiber
