Crystallize by Tokyo Shoegazer
As their name suggests, Tokyo Shoegazer emerged from the Shibuya region of Tokyo. Together from 2010 to 2013 and then reuniting in 2019, the group has quickly become of the most exciting modern shoegaze groups. Though all of their records have been positively received, including the one that was released just a few weeks ago, today I’m going to be talking about their debut album. Released in November 2011, Crystallize is one of the most fast-paced, brash records I’ve heard. It has the noisiness of Feed Me With Your Kiss, but also has some quieter moments, like the beautifully psychedelic, “Bright.” Yuki and Watanabe Kiyomi’s vocals blend well, especially in tracks like, “Just Alright.” It amazes me that one cat was able to create so many layers of sound.
