Installing Debian Linux with full-disk encryption and a key-boot disk (Part 1)
This is Part One of a 5-part series which takes you through the complete installation process of the Debian Linux operating system with full-disk encryption. We also place the boot partition on an external USB flash drive. The focus will be on privacy and anonymity.
Part One focuses on partitioning the drives and setting up the encrypted internal solid-state drive (SSD). We will also place the ‘/boot’ partition on the external USB flash drive. This will allow us to set up the USB flash drive as a ’key-drive’ for our encrypted internal system drive.
This configuration is designed to give us a secure and private operating system. From here we can add and configure additional privacy and anonymity tools such as Tor, Whonix and VPNs.
What you will need:
1. Computer (Laptop or desktop)
2. Internet connection (wired preferred)
3. Installer Media (CD-ROM or Flash Drive)
4. SSD Hard Drive
5. USB Flash Drive (small profile)
6. Time and Patience
