Were you feeling sorry for the Ducks? I worried a little that people might think this was some how cruel. We were supervising so no one got hurt which does seem to come across. These ducks are free to roam in our backyard and they do need to be able to protect themselves, which they actually do a pretty good job of. Each night they put themselves away in their fully enclosed pen and we close the gate for them to keep them safe at night. We were considering if we should let them go free so we were testing to see how they would react in their own defense before any final decision is made.

I do hate the thought of not seeing them playing in the yard everyday, but I could look forward to going to visit them at a place near by where they might meet up with some girl ducks, since these have turned out to be both drakes. There is a 57 acre private lake which is also inhabited by a beautiful White Swan who resides there regularly with many Wild Ducks and Geese. It is loaded with fish and they do like to catch fish. We buy them live Minos and Gold fish for their special treats and turn them loose in their pool. Their water was a little dirty at the moment of this video, but we change and refill their 2 pools regularly with fresh water, but they can dirty it up in a day as they love to muck around in the dirt digging for bugs and worms and then dip their heads in the water. They are provided cracked corn for supplemental feed. When they get hungry for corn they come to the back door and start knocking with their beaks and then try to come inside where they know the bag of corn is kept.

The red dog is actually our neighbors Pit Bull dog who has kept watch over them since they were very little ducklings. He thinks he is their protector and he will come running to their defense and chase off any stray dogs that he sees coming near. The black lab dog, Sweety Pie, is a rescue dog that adopted us when she was left abandoned in our neighborhood. Animal control came and took her away one day and we rescued her.
