Niger seeks new alliances, snubs ECOWAS sanctions lifting

A move by West Africa's regional bloc ECOWAS to ease economic sanctions on Niger earlier this year was seen as an attempt to engage in dialogue with the country's junta, which came to power after a coup last summer.
