The 10th Illinois Infantry Reenactment Group is hosting their annual Sandwich School Day and Living History Encampment this weekend, April 11th-13th, 2014. They first have the School Day on Friday, April 11th, at James Knight Park in Sandwich. They will have several stations set up for cooking, marching, firing demonstrations, a display of weapons and a display of a typical soldier's personal items for the Sandwich students to see and learn about. The group enjoys this opportunity to talk and show what life was like for a Civil War soldier to area children.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, the group will host an actual living history Civil War Encampment, again at James Knights Park in Sandwich. See the soldiers' tents and weapons, how their meals were cooked, and what items were carried in their knapsack as the 10th Illinois Regiment brings history to life. The anniversary of the initial mustering in of the Sandwich Guards is also honored during the weekend, which occurred 154 years ago.

The public is invited to the free event, where everyone is urged to ask questions and learn more about the Civil War from 10am to 5pm Saturday, April 17th, and from 10am to 2pm Sunday, April 18th. James Knight Park is located at N. Latham St. and E. Arnold Streets in Sandwich, Il..
