Thousands of people were in Victoria St West in central Auckland and got a close-up view for the fireworks display that went off at midnight from the Sky Tower. In the lead-up to midnight, the Sky Tower was adorned with colourful animated laser displays of geometric shapes and animals including a green gecko which appeared to be climbing down the 328m tall tower.
SYDNEY
Australia celebrates the arrival of 2021 with a fireworks display from the iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

LONDON
The UK is among the last European countries to enter 2021. In London, party-goers watched fireworks displays over the Big Ben.

MOSCOW
Russians began the world's longest continuous New Year's Eve with fireworks and a message from President Vladimir Putin urging them to work together in the coming year.

DUBAI
Tourists and locals in Dubai kicked off the New Year with one of the world's top fireworks shows at the Burj Khalifa skyscraper. The New Year's Eve display at the 828-meter-tall (2,716-foot-tall) structure was just one of seven different fireworks shows across the emirate.
NEW YORK
Fireworks burst and confetti fell as throngs of revelers cheered the start of 2020 in New York City's Times Square. In one of the globe's most-watched New Year's Eve spectacles, the crowd counted down the last seconds of 2020 as a luminescent crystal ball descended down a pole.

RIO DE JANEIRO
In Brazil, it is traditional to wear white clothing on New Year's Eve. The celebration is known as "Reveillon." White is said to bring good luck. In Rio de Janeiro, people gather at Copacabana beach to watch live music.
