Already in 2700 BC in ancient Egypt the magician Dedi captivated people with his conjuring tricks. There are many references to magic in ancient Greek mythology. In the old ages magic was much more than just entertainment. Amulets, curse tablets, magic spells were part of magic. In the early 17th century one of the first books on magic was published. It was titled “Hocus Pocus Junior: The Anatomie of Legerdemain”. In the 19th century the "father of modern magic", Jean Eugine Robert-Houdin transformed magic from the street and circus side shows into true and elegant
entertainment events. And then came Harry Houdini, David Copperfield, Lance Burton, Val Valentino and many others.
It would be very hard to find someone who doesn’t enjoy a good magic act. But why are people still so drawn to it? We’ll try to find out.
