Scraping, Cutting & Sanding the Rusted Floor Pan | DIY Car Restoration Series Ep. 1

0:00 - Scraping old coating & surface rust
4:40 - Cutting out rusted spots with grinder
9:50 - Sanding & final prep before POR-15

In this timelapse, I take on one of the most important steps in any restoration—floorpan prep.

I’m working on my 1981 Fiat 124 Spider, removing the old coating, surface rust, and cutting out the worst rusted spots with a grinder. After scraping, brushing, and sanding the metal, I’m getting everything ready for POR-15 treatment and welding in new sheet metal.

This was dirty, detailed work—but satisfying as hell to see the original metal come through again.

Tools I used in this video:
• Metal scrapers
• Wire brushes
• Orbital sander
• Angle grinder

Coming next:
• Applying POR-15
• Welding in new metal panels
• Seam sealing & priming
