Montblanc Patron of Art 2020 Moctezuma I 4810 & 888 Limited Edition Fountain Pens Overview

Moctezuma I (1397-1469), who ruled the Aztecs from 1440 to 1469, is best known for his expansion of the empire and for his construction projects, including the embankment over Lake Texcoco and the temple to the god Huitzilopochtli. He stated that war was the Aztec's primary task in ensuring a steady supply of casualties to the Templo Mayor, the temple of the sun, Huitzilopochtli, which claimed many casualties each year. Moctezuma's way of conquering an enemy and claiming tribute became the norm for all future Aztec conquests.

Moctezuma I, also known as Motecuhzoma Ilhuicamina ("the lonely one who shoots an arrow into the sky") was the grandson of the first leader of Tenochtitlan ("Cactus Rock"). The major city-state of the Aztecs, Tenochtitlan was the major city-state of the Aztecs. It was located on an island in Lake Texcoco in the valley of Mexico. Tenochtitlan was the predecessor of Mexico City, the capital of modern Mexico. In 1440,

Moctezuma was chosen to take over the reins. Unlike the previous leaders, who had the title "Speaker", he was called "Great Speaker" because he spoke not only to the Aztecs, but also to the tribes that honored him. The coronation of Moctezuma was an elaborate ceremony involving the sacrifice of many prisoners. Seated on a basketwork throne, Hungry Coyote, lord of Texcoco, placed the crown of fire, a turquoise diadem, on the head of his friend Moctezuma.

Among the greatest achievements of the Aztecs, Moctezuma I and Nezahualcoyotl of Texcoco organized the construction and completion of a double aqueduct piping system, which supplied the city of Tenochtitlan with fresh water. Moctezuma expanded the borders of the Aztec empire beyond the Valley of Mexico to the Gulf coast, subjugating the Huastec and Totonac peoples, giving them access to exotic goods such as cocoa, rubber, cotton, fruit, feathers, and shells.

On the tribute pen Parton of Art Moctezuma we find a number of symbols of this great ruler. The Montblanc symbol, in pearl mour, is embedded in a sunstone. Moctezuma's victories are carved in this stone. The shape of the pen is based on an Altatl. A spear thrower. The spear was placed in it to give it more speed when throwing, so that a greater distance was achieved. The pen is made in turquoise lacquer with a pattern that refers to themantle of Moctezuma. The colors of the pen Red and Blue are the colors of Moctezuma. On the cap are symbols of war symbols and a skull (laquer inlays). At that time you wore these symbols on your mantle. The more symbols you wore on your clothes, the higher you were in the hierarchy. The 4 lines represent the 4 cardinal directions that radiated out from the Templo Mayor, the large temple, Huitzilopochtli. The pattern as reminiscence to the stairs up the temple. The stairs had 100 steps. The top ring of the extended cap and the top of the clip refer to the Aztek crown and jewelery. The clip represents the spear. On the sides it is decorated as a reference to the feathers. In the tip an inlay in jade. In the Aztec times, jade was more expensive than gold. The cone in special hammered pattern shows the sacrificial knife used in the Templo Mayor. This knife was made from obsidian.
