MUTE SWAN CALLING a Lost Mate 👀 A Strange CRY

The only time I had heard a Swan making similar noises was unfortunately when I went to check a nest on a local pond some years ago and found the female dead on the nest. It had been dead at least a few days and smelt pretty strong, but the male swan was swimming about on the pond making similar crying type noises and he refused to be flushed away.
I did ring the RSPB who dealt with it, taking the dead bird away and also the eggs.
Back to the Mute Swan in this footage:
I am assuming he had lost his mate, whether she had cleared off, for whatever reason, or whether she was simply out of sight, having possibly flown to a different pond or lake nearby?
