The Suzuki GS500F "walking-cam" noise is a common complaint, particularly
for the years 2003-2005. It is caused by side-to-side travel of the camshafts, and usually only apparent at idle. Older versions also suffered from this issue, but not to the extent of the 03-05 bikes.

Despite the fact Suzuki claimed that this condition caused no damage to the engine; they addressed the issue for the 2006+ models with re-designed cams, and special spring loaded "wave-washers". The new cams are backwards compatible, so the problem can be remedied if you can find the parts.
