How to activate Coppercoat antifouling with sanding machine, type 400 sand paper and by hand

Coppercoat is a copper based antifouling for protecting the underwater body of your sailing boat or your motor vessel. It should last by far longer then a typical antifouling. We hope it will be ok for 8-12 years (there are many different opinions).

It is pretty well known in the bluewater community.

However Coppercoat is a coating that needs to be activated. This means the enclosed copper particles need to be partly released by sanding. Then the copper is in direct contact with air. The oxygen reacts with the copper and creates the protection layer.

The Coppercoat is being activated simply with a sanding machine plus sanding paper type 400 and by hand.

You can see that is not a rocket science. But you have to make sure to roughen the surface thoroughly but not too much. That is it.
