The ONE Thing I Wish Id Known Before My FRESHMAN YEAR at Howard University

In this video I discuss the one thing I wish I knew before my freshman year of college. College is very unique because it is the first time that most people really think about what they will do in the future. Before my freshman year, I was so focused on getting into the best college possible that I did not even think about what I would do after college. However, once I got to college I started to think about what I will do in the future. I started asking questions like, what is the right major for me? How do I enjoy work? What should I do after college. The standard advice we are given is to follow our passion, but how do we find our passion and should we even be asking how to find our passion? From asking myself how to find my passion for a year, I realized that the standard advice of finding your passion is poor advice. Instead, I should focus on developing skills and being so good at something that my talent can’t be ignored. I hope that through this video you will re-evaluate if “trying to find your passion” is the right thing to do. I hope that perhaps you’ll focus more on developing a skill so that you can provide value to other people. Ultimately, I don’t think we have preexisting passions. I think that through developing skills, we find joy in our work because we are instead focusing on getting better at whatever work we do.
