I am going to explain Aruba ClearPass in a very simple and easy way, specially for beginners.(Hindi)
What is Aruba ClearPass? (Basic Explanation)
Aruba ClearPass is a Network Access Control (NAC) solution.
In simple words, it decides who can connect to your network, from which device, and with what access level.
Think of ClearPass like a security guard at the network gate 🛡️.
Why Do We Need ClearPass?
In an organization, many devices try to connect:
Employees’ laptops
Mobile phones
Guest users
Printers, CCTV, IoT devices
ClearPass helps to:
Allow authorized users only
Block unauthorized devices
Give different access to different users
How Does Aruba ClearPass Work?
A device tries to connect to the network (Wi-Fi or LAN)
ClearPass checks:
Who is the user?
What type of device is it?
Is the device compliant?
Based on rules (policies), ClearPass decides:
Full access
Limited access
Guest access
Deny access
Key Features (Beginner Level)
1️⃣ Authentication
ClearPass verifies user identity using:
Username & password
Active Directory / LDAP
Certificates
Guest login
2️⃣ Authorization
After login, ClearPass decides:
Which VLAN to assign
What network access to allow
Which role the user gets
Example:
Employee → Office network
Guest → Internet only
IoT device → Limited network
3️⃣ Device Profiling
ClearPass automatically detects:
Laptop
Mobile phone
Printer
IP phone
CCTV / IoT devices
No manual identification needed.
4️⃣ Guest Access
ClearPass provides:
Guest Wi-Fi portal
Self-registration
Sponsor approval
Time-based access
Very useful in offices, hospitals, hotels.
5️⃣ Policy Management
ClearPass uses IF–ELSE logic.
Example:
IF user is Employee AND device is Corporate
THEN give Full Access
ELSE give Limited Access
Where Is ClearPass Used?
Corporate offices
Hospitals
Colleges & universities
Airports
Manufacturing plants
Simple Real-Life Example
🔹 Employee laptop → Full network access
🔹 Guest mobile → Internet only
🔹 Unknown device → Blocked
All this is controlled by ClearPass policies.
