Baader Meinhoff Phenomenon and Selective Attention

Why do some professionals suddenly appear everywhere once you notice them?

This is explained by a psychological concept called the Baader–Meinhof phenomenon, also known as the frequency illusion.

It happens when something you recently noticed suddenly seems to appear repeatedly in your environment. In reality, it was always there — your brain just didn’t recognize it before.

Our brains filter enormous amounts of information every second. With texts, emails, Slack messages, notifications, and alerts constantly competing for attention, the brain prioritizes what it believes is relevant.

Everything else fades into the background.

This has major implications for professionals in crowded industries like real estate.

If someone only knows you as “a realtor,” your signal gets lost among thousands of others.

But when you clearly communicate the problems you solve and the situations you specialize in, the brain forms a mental shortcut. Once that shortcut exists, people start noticing you everywhere.

In this video we break down:

• The Baader–Meinhof phenomenon
• How selective attention filters information
• Why positioning determines visibility
• How AI can amplify your professional signal

If you’re a realtor who wants to understand how AI and behavioral psychology can help you stand out, join our free masterclass on March 11th at 11AM EST.
