UN REP FOR SUDAN: "PEOPLE OF SUDAN ARE TRAPPED IN AN INFERNO OF BRUTAL VIOLENCE"

The Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami told journalists in New York that “after more than a year of conflict, people of Sudan are trapped in an inferno of brutal violence,” with famine, diseases, and fighting “closing in.”

On the 15th of April, 2023, fightings erupted in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, involving the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and a separate military entity, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict rapidly extended throughout the nation.
Both the SAF and RSF have frequently deployed heavy artillery in densely populated areas, resulting in a significant number of civilian casualties, damage to homes, and the destruction of essential infrastructure.
Reports from the United Nations indicates that the death toll had reached at least 9,000 since the conflict began.
