Finding a wild bushmaster in Costa Rica! The longest pit viper, venomous snake in the rainforest

Bushmasters (matabuey) are the longest vipers in the world. They are also the biggest pit vipers and the longest venomous snakes of the Western Hemisphere. These snakes are rare and elusive. Finding them in the rainforest is a big moment for each snake lover! How exciting is to find a wild bushmaster? We were lucky in Costa Rica where we found the Central American bushmaster (Lachesis stenophrys). It happened during our stay with the Bushmaster Conservation Project team. We found a huge and beautiful bushmaster with the first intern of this project, Nicholas Hess.
